Alacati Ashtanga Yoga Holiday
Sunday 14th to Saturday 20th June, 2020
Join Adam for a relaxing yoga holiday surrounded by nature, with time to breathe deeper into your practice, ask lots of questions, explore what it means to live a yoga lifestyle and of course relax and meet new friends.
The Cesme region is one of the most picturesque corners of Southern Turkey, situated on the south west peninsula, famed for its abundance of fresh, local produce and wonderful, traditional Turkish cuisine.
We will be staying in town of Alacati, with its abundance of bougainvillea lined lanes where you can rest for a cool drink in one of the many cafes after shopping at the local markets.
It is a rustic and peaceful area, close to the sea, and right by the thermal hot-springs surrounded by local nature. The area allows for many possibilities outside yoga practice, for example a day trip to the world heritage site of Ephesus to see the ruins of an ancient Greek city dating back to the 10th century BC.
D’core Alacati is a boutique hotel, overlooking the Aegean Sea, complete with comfortable rooms, Wi-Fi and a fantastic restaurant offering home cooked vegetarian food. (book early to stay on-site, but if this is full, there is a wide choice of other accommodation we will be using just down the road).
There will be morning Mysore practice for 6 days and a led class with introduction to intermediate series on the last day. Adam is famed for clear and concise instruction and you will learn technique that you have not heard before.
The workshops will be both asana based as well as focus on breathwork and yoga philosophy and how it relates to living a yoga lifestyle in our modern world.
- 3.00pm – 7.00pm: Arrivals, check in to D’core Hotel
- 7.00pm: Welcome dinner and introduction
- 8am – 10am: Mysore Class
- 11.30am – 1.00pm: The Secret of the Inner Stretch (at D’core Hotel)
This is the introduction and crucial workshop on the hidden technique of the inner-stretch. This doesn’t happen in isolation, rather it is by the skillful use of breathing through careful use of bandha to control the diaphragm.
The shape is only the start of the asana, it’s how the posture is breathed in, worked in, that makes all the difference to one’s overall development, both physically, and more energetically. Within this technique the integral body is strengthened, whilst also dramatically loosened, yet, practice remains safe and injury free.
This is a unique perspective, known by all long-term teachers, but explained in particular clarity through this workshop.
- 8.00am – 10.00am Mysore Class
- 2.30 – 4.00pm: Workshop – Yoga Sutras for the Modern Day (at Whisper Hot Spring Pool)
Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras are the basis of the modern understanding of yoga, also including the ashtanga yoga principles, or the eight limbs of practice. We will explore this text pragmatically together, with a focus on how this actually translates to your life in modern society. Keeping an open mind and the spirit of inquiry, it is hoped that this text will become a fresh source of inspiration, rather than simply something we ought to study.
- 8.00am – 10am: Mysore Class
- 11.30am – 1.00pm: Workshop – Building Strength, Jump Back / Jump Through and Intro to Inversions (at D’core Hotel)
A firm favourite, this workshop never ceases to inspire, whilst giving further tools and tips in order that the wished-for lightness in practice is within your control.
Relevant to all levels, even if your jump-thru ‘sucks’, everyone will leave at least knowing the work that needs to be done in order to make the next step in progressing the strength element of the practice. Be prepared to be surprised, maybe even realize that you had it all along.
- 8.00 – 10.00am: Mysore Class
- 2.30 – 4.00pm: Making Sense of The Bhagavad Gita Workshop (at Whisper Hot Spring Pool)
In this discussion, fresh life will be breathed into the seminal yoga text, which is just as relevant today as when it was originally conceived. Our focus will be the key concept of duty in The Gita, where it is said ‘better to do your own duty poorly, than another’s’ well’.
This means recognizing oneself more clearly, and living life with greater integrity and conviction, how to accomplish this will be examined together as a group. This text along with The Yoga Sutras, serves to be the very underpinning of your yoga practice, indeed it is a guide book for living.
